The increased level of bio-content in fuel has lead to tanks often having a small, but problematic, amount of water contaminating fuel. This provides the perfect environment for fuel 'bugs', bacteria colonies, to form, creating a type of sludge called biofilm. This biofilm causes filter blockages and issues with machinery/equipment.
